Pentik's Responsibility Review 2022 has been published

Pentik, a Finnish interior design house, has published its 2022 Responsibility Review. The family business published its first responsibility review last year, after which systematic efforts have been made to promote responsibility work. The new review describes the progress of responsibility work, as well as the responsibility actions and highlights carried out in 2022.

The company, which champions the values of domesticity, local production, and the preservation of Finnish ceramic expertise, has distilled its three key themes of responsibility into caring for the environment, caring for people, and taking responsibility for products and people. The most significant highlights regarding the progress of responsibility work in 2022 are summarized below.

Highlights of Pentik's responsibility work in 2022

  • Obtaining the EcoCompass environmental system certificate for the Posio ceramics factory.
  • Publication of Pentik's first responsibility review.
  • Calculation of the company's carbon footprint.
  • First place in its own industry in the Sustainable Brand Index comparison, which measures Finns' perceptions.
  • Creation of Pentik's handbook for responsible materials and design and procurement methods.
  • A donation of €20,500 to UNICEF, including proceeds from the sale of the Viljapelto and Poutapilvet plates and an additional donation of €10,000 to help Ukrainian children and families.

In 2022, Pentik faced challenges due to the general global situation, which meant that not all set targets were met, and some responsibility targets, such as job satisfaction and the domestic content of products, decreased.

"Our operating environment has undergone particularly rapid changes in recent years, as global crises challenge us. Consumers' purchasing power has significantly weakened over the past year, causing many of us to consider our consumption decisions more carefully than before. Thoughtful, responsible consumption is fortunately also a highly desirable goal. Our design and selection are based on the fundamental idea that products last from generation to generation. Ceramics, in particular, are eternal; when carefully handled, they last many lifetimes. Responsibility is continuous work, in which we are never finished. Our goal, however, is always to be a little better tomorrow than today," states Pentik's CEO, Riikka Wulff.

During autumn 2023, the company's responsibility work will continue with, among other things, the calculation of its carbon footprint and the setting of emission targets. Pentik will communicate more detailed information about the actions taken in 2023 in its next responsibility review, which will be published in June 2024. The harsh North teaches us to make places beautiful. The northern winter is not just about the Northern Lights. It's also about darkness, sleet, freezing winds, and slippery streets. Perhaps the harshness of winter has taught us to appreciate all the beauty that the northern nature and changing seasons offer. We - Pentik - are a Finnish lifestyle brand for interior design. We give shape to what shaped us. The northern nature. Our family business, founded in 1971, has the world's northernmost ceramics factory in Posio, Finnish Lapland. We have 47 own stores, including an online store. Our turnover in 2022 was 25 million euros, and we employed approximately 200 people in Finland.
