Pentik Store Network Grows: New Store Opened in Arctic Circle

Press release 18 February 2022

Pentik, a Finnish interior design house, opened a brand new store in Rovaniemi on Friday, February 18. The store is Pentik's 47th own store and is located in Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle, in the Santa Claus Office building. The store's selection is unique and tailored to meet the needs of its customers. The utility and art ceramics on sale are manufactured at Pentik's ceramic and candle factory in Posio, 130 kilometers from the Arctic Circle. In addition, the store offers seasonal interior textiles and easy-to-buy souvenirs.

Santa Claus Village

The nature of the north has inspired Anu Pentik, the founder of Pentik, and nature is strongly reflected in the product selection and material choices of the Arctic Circle store. Ceramic artist Anu Pentik has personally selected and created a number of art pieces for sale in the new store. The store's ceiling is decorated with a part of the 'Lentoon' installation, which was on display at the WAM Turku City Art Museum last summer. Recycled materials have also been used in the store furniture. For example, the cash register desk utilizes waste ceramics from the Posio factory, and the display table tops feature floorboards collected and restored from old houses in the Posio area that have been demolished or renovated.

Northern destinations attract domestic and foreign tourists. Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle is one of Lapland's most popular tourist destinations, with approximately half a million tourists visiting annually. Pentik has positive experiences with the destination, as the family business had its own store in Santa Claus Village in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The new Pentik store is now opening on the Arctic Circle at a time when tourist numbers in the north have started to grow again. In Rovaniemi, the number of tourists grew significantly in 2021, especially driven by domestic tourism. Tourist numbers for 2022 are expected to recover to the record level of 2019, and over the next three years, growth is expected to exceed 10 percent annually.*

- Finnish nature and design are now appealing to tourists. For us, our northern roots are the foundation of our operations, and the new Arctic Circle store is close to our home base in Posio. Returning to Santa Claus Village allows us an agile way to test trends with an international target audience and to listen to the wishes and development ideas of domestic interior design enthusiasts. This year, we are also heavily investing in developing the customer experience and thoroughly renewing our store concept. By the end of the year, we will open a few new stores based on the new concept in new locations, says Riikka Wulff, CEO of Pentik.
