Supplies:
- Fabric the width of the ironing board + 20 cm for seam allowances.
- Bias tape the length of the cover's circumference
- Cord
Use an old ironing board cover as a pattern, or turn the board upside down on the fabric and draw the pattern from that. Leave a 10 cm seam allowance on all sides.
1. Start sewing the bias tape from the middle of the straight end of the board. Fold the beginning of the tape neatly, place the right sides of the bias tape and fabric together, and sew along the fold of the tape around the entire cover. Finish the bias tape next to the starting point with a neat fold, leaving an opening between the tapes for the cord.
2. Iron the bias tape along the seam to the wrong side, and sew it in place around the entire cover. The bias tape will form a casing for the cord. Attach a safety pin to the cord and thread it through the bias tape casing all the way around. Leave extra cord hanging out of both ends so that it doesn't accidentally get lost inside the casing, e.g., during washing.
3. Place the cover symmetrically on the ironing board. Tighten the cover with the cord under the board and tie it securely with a tight bow or stopper.
