A minimalist roll-up valance is perfect for a kitchen, for example, as it adds softness to the space without obscuring the window too much. You can play with different fabric and ribbon choices and sew a curtain that suits your style to brighten your home.
Supplies:
Curtain fabric, ribbon, round wooden dowel (1 cm diameter), and sewing thread.
Instructions:
1. Measure the width of the window and acquire suitable fabric. If the window is wide, you can sew the curtain from two pieces, which will create a seam. Alternatively, you can sew two separate curtains. The curtain can be installed either inside the window recess or over the window frames.
2. Cut a suitable piece of fabric, adding approximately 2 cm seam allowance to the long sides and about 60 cm to the length for rolling, seam allowances, and the bottom rod casing. Measure the ribbon to be 2 x the finished curtain height + 60 cm. If the curtain is to be installed on a rod, add the necessary fold allowance to the top edge of the curtain. When installing on a curtain track, about 2 cm seam allowance is sufficient.
3. Turn a double hem of about 1 cm on the long sides and sew. Iron the edges neat. At the bottom edge of the curtain, turn a double hem of about 3 cm for the wooden dowel, sew, and iron.
4. At the top edge of the curtain, turn the double hems required by the installation method and sew.
5. Measure about 10 cm from the sides of the top edge towards the center and pin a folded ribbon in half there. The ribbon should be on both the front and back sides of the curtain. Sew the ribbon to the curtain.
6. Insert the wooden dowel into the bottom hem and roll the curtain to your desired height, tying the ribbons into a bow.
7. Install the curtain on a rod or track.
