NORTHERN MAGIC - exhibition
Anu Pentik & Paula Suominen & Teuvo Tuomivaara
Galleria Angelo, Pori 6.7. – 25.7.2010

Anu Pentik
“The time has come to create individual works. I am fascinated by the three-dimensional quality of hand-crafted ceramics. In wintertime, amidst the Northern snow, I think of spring – the apple trees and flowers of the South. These meditations have given rise to my works, which represent the start of something new.”
Anu Pentik is the founder and artistic director of Pentik Oy. She has lived and worked most of her adult life in the small community of Posio in Lapland. Over the past 20 years Anu Pentik has designed a wide range of household ceramics, such as the popular Vanilla and Aino services. In recent years the artist has focused on creating her own Studio range. Anu Pentik has held numerous ceramics exhibitions in Finland.

Paula Suominen
”Living amidst the forest close to nature has a big influence on my work. My sources of inspiration are the clear Northern light and the contrast of the changing seasons.”
Paula Suominen studied art at Tartu Art College in Estonia and graduated in 2000. She is a member of the Finnish Painters’ Union and local artists’ associations in Lapland and Turku. Each year Suominen’s art is displayed at private and group exhibitions throughout Finland. Suominen has also taught art at summer courses. The works in this exhibition consist of oil paintings created in 2009 and 2010.

Teuvo Tuomivaara
”My work is inspired by the Northern nature – the same curved forms of the fells and hills that often appear in human figures. The end result is minimalistic. I use wood, concrete, stone and bronze in my work. My environmental art installations have also featured snow, ice and fire.”
Teuvo Tuomivaara has held numerous private and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad. He has participated in many sculpture events throughout the world and been active in several municipal sculpture projects. Tuomivaara is a member of the Artists’ Association of Lapland and the Association of Finnish Sculptors. The works in this
exhibition consist of wooden and marble sculptures created between 2005 and 2010.
