New Look for Pentik-mäki Cultural Centre Store and Café

The past three decades have seen the Pentik-mäki Cultural Centre in Posio, Finland develop into a multi-faceted cultural and shopping destination. The Centre currently comprises museum spaces, exhibitions, a café and the Pentik factory outlet store.

The Cultural Centre is now due to undergo an extension, starting with the refurbishment of the café and shop premises. The shop, museums and exhibitions will remain open throughout, with the café closed from 27 October until 30 November 2008.

In line with Anu Pentik’s vision, the Cultural Centre will be made into a unique and inspirational destination where art and nature meet. The refurbishment will also allow new and improved visitor services to be provided. The shop will become one continuous, atmospheric space with an exhibition area for Pentik Studio products. The interior design and tableware departments will also benefit from additional space. In future, Pentik-mäki will also cater for its younger visitors with the addition of a children’s play area with toys and drawing materials.

The in-store café will be refurbished to offer a range of culinary delights for the centre’s visitors. In summer, delicious fresh salads and soups will be available in addition to the traditional savory snacks as well as cakes and pastries.

A collection of public ceramic art is being established at the Cultural Centre and in the centre of Posio. The first in these works, a 14-metre-long colourful mosaic piece designed by Anu Pentik, Paula Suominen and Sonja Bimberg, was unveiled in June 2008.

The store and café refurbishment will be followed by the launch of the Pentik Ceramics Gallery in spring 2009. The gallery is to feature a stunning mosaic façade, designed by Anu Pentik and her team of three art students. The gallery will play host to bi-annual exhibitions, with Anu Pentik due to be showcased as the first featured artist.
