New Ceramic Sculpture Unveiled 4 June 2008

Pentik-mäki Cultural Centre’s inaugural ceramic sculpture is to be unveiled on Wednesday 4 June in Posio, Finland.

This stunning and colourful, 14-metre-long piece is designed by Anu Pentik and Paula Suominen and has been realised by art student Sonja Bimberg. It is the first in a series of public ceramic sculptures to be unveiled in the centre of Posio and at the Pentik-mäki Culture Centre.

This sculpture is recycling at its best, each of its pieces having come from broken and second class Pentik ceramics. The sculpture represents a glimpse into Pentik history and indeed, many will no doubt recognise the classic, colourful Pentik designs running through it.

”The countless colourful mosaics I have seen on my travels have served as the inspiration for this piece and the idea has been turning over in my head for years, Anu Pentik says of the creative process. ”The design was created by Anu Suominen. We are both hugely excited and inspired by this piece, so full of life and light, and by the new plans going into the future,” she adds.

Work on the ceramic art collection will continue in late June. The latest piece, a façade for the new Pentik Gallery soon to be opened at the Pentik-mäki Culture Centre, is a collaboration between Anu Pentik and three art students. The Pentik Gallery will open in June 2009.
